FCBD & may schedule

We have a couple fun May surprises… First one, we will be OPEN on Thursdays for May + June, from 12-6:30! The second surprise is that, in lieu of Sour Cherry Con (rest in peace) we are doing a Portfolio Review Day on Free Comic Book Day (May 2) and Maya’s Magic Brunch (May 3) – so there will still be fun stuff to do all weekend. Oh, and we are bringing back comics by the pound.

All day on Free Comic Book Day, look forward to digging through back issues at $10/lb.

Saturday, May 2 @ 1-3pm: Portfolio Review with Don Aguillo and Yasmeen Abedifard! Get your art/comics portfolio looked at by industry professionals. This is a FREE event open to the public co-presented by CCA Comics program. Please email us at sourcherrycomics@gmail.com and let us know what time you are interested in coming by.

Sunday, May 3 @ 12-3pm: Maya’s Magic Brunch $15-30 (pay in-store) sliding scale ticket will get you a tarot reading and a candle color consultation from our resident witch, Maya Songbird! She is rarely in-house so take advantage of this event if you have any questions or would like her to give you a deep dive candle consult! We will have light refreshments.

Weds., May 6 @ 6pm: Queer Craft/DIY Night! Bring your own craft. Please RSVP as space is limited. Note that we are moving away from Eventbrite, and trying out Humanitix, which is structured similarly to Eventbrite and you can follow us on Humanitix to be updated of future events!

Saturday, May 9 @ 1-4pm: Letter Writing with Flying Over WallsBay Area. They will be joining us from 1-4pm so come on down and write a birthday card to one of our queer/trans incarcerated comrades! (supplies provided)

Monday, May 11 @ 6:30pm: Babes Who Book! This is the first May meeting. Babes Who Book is an informal book club where we will share what we have been reading lately. Please make an effort to be on-time if you’d like to share your reading activity so that you can sign up and be on the list to speak. Sharing is optional and you are more than welcome to hang out and listen to get recommendations. Attendees receive 10% off all books, graphic novels and manga.

Weds., May 13 @ 6pm: Reclaim Your Attention Span! This will be a shut-up-and-write/draw/read as well as rediscover and repair your attention span in the age of short-form video content. How do we ignore the daily bombardment of instagram reels/tiktok as well as the everpresent need to be “available” via text and social media? How do we set boundaries for others and for ourselves in a world where it is demanded of us to present a version to the world via these social media apps? Can we REJECT big Tech’s influence over us altogether? Let’s loosen tech’s chokehold on our lives and the perception of our human selves. This event is free/NOTAFLOF but book purchases always encouraged.

Saturday, May 16 @ 2pm: Strengthening Our Social Care Amidst the News with Seeds of Change. An organizing and community gathering hosted by Sam Chavez. Please RSVP & purchase a ticket on their page. Info about the event is also on the page, and a summary below:

Join us to discuss how social media influences our emotions and how we can build stronger self-care and community-care practices to better support ourselves online.
