Hello everyone, it is September~ we wanted to amplify some calls to action from Norcal Resist and smaller local groups like lxspinguinxs to show up at the Immigration Courts at 100 Montgomery every Tuesday – Friday. As ICE abductions ramp up, let’s all do our part to spread awareness and show up wherever and whenever we can.
Here’s some things happening at the store this month to be in community with one another:
Weds., Sept. 3 @ 6:00pm: Queer Craft/DIY Nite! Please RSVP on Eventbrite
Monday, Sept. 8 @ 6:30pm: Babes Who Book! Informal book chatter. We have a sign up (to speak about whatever books you want to share) that is how we do the order – please arrive on time and a little early if you’d like to sign up. Attendees get 10% off books, graphic novels and manga!
Weds., Sept. 10 @ 6:00pm: Sour Cherry Zine Swap! Did you have fun at SF Zine Fest? Are you a zine maker looking to get your zines out to more folks / share with new friends or make friends with other zine makers and connoisseurs? This is a free event for people to swap zines (for free!) – bring some you are happy to swap for free!
Saturday, Sept. 13 @ 1-4pm: Letter Writing with Flying Over Walls, Bay Area. They will be joining us from 1-4pm so come on down and write a birthday card to one of our queer/trans incarcerated comrades! (supplies provided)
Weds., Sept. 17 @ 6:00pm: Beads 4 Pal! We are teaming up with Artists Unite for Palestine again to make beaded accessories (think bracelets, keychains, mask chains, etc) to sell in the shop (and at events/pop-ups!) to raise money for families in Gaza. You can read about the families that we are supporting (on a rotating basis) at our post here. All of the shop sales of donation items on our Palestine table get distributed to some of these campaigns monthly. Because there are a lot of campaigns and generally limited funds and we want to be able to donate a meaningful amount to the families, we help about 4-5 families on this list per month, on a rotating basis.
Due to the popularity of this event and the size limitations in our space, we are asking folks to please sign up on Eventbrite this time.
Sunday, September 21 @ 12:00pm: Book Swap in the Park & Bonus (Weekend!) Babes Who Book! If you’ve ever wanted to attend Babes Who Book but you are too tired or far away during the week, we are hosting a very special SUNDAY Babes Who Book after our first ever Book Swap in the Park! Bring a/some books to swap in the park (we will meet by the tennis courts on the flat area! Look for a little black cart and Sour Cherry sign) and then we can walk over to the store for our informal book chatter around 2pm.
Monday, Sept. 22 @ 6:30pm: Babes Who Book! Second September meeting.
Weds., Sept. 24 @ 5-8pm: GAY GUNDAM NIGHT! Please RSVP on Eventbrite as space is limited.
Not listed, but happening at Sour Cherry: Transcendance is a weekly meetup/mutual aid/support group for trans people and happens (most) Tuesdays. The full schedule / exclusions are listed here at this link.
