DECEMBER: fun stuff!

It’s December schedule time…! The schedule is ready – with our usuals, and another MAGIC BRUNCH with our beloved resident witch, Maya Songbird.

If you are struggling to find holiday gifts, we can help! We have put together mystery bundles with books, graphic novels, manga (check the tag for descriptions!) that are wrapped packages that you can hand directly to your loved ones to spread the joy of reading! Additionally, if you need help getting presents to your loved ones in other states / other parts of the state, we are offering shipping options for books, graphic novels, and comics. We will go to the post office for you! (shipping rates will range from $10-15) Lastly, please be sure to keep an eye out for our “STAFF RECS/STORE FAVES/BESTSELLERS” – which are new cards we have put together with short descriptions, names and titles that you can use to narrow down your search.

Sunday, Dec. 8 @ 12-3pm: MAGIC BRUNCH with our beloved resident witch, Maya Songbird. We had so much fun last time that we’re bringing it back! This event is free and open to the public – there will be coffee + tea, non-alcoholic mimosas, and donuts. If you would like a tarot reading + color consultation from Maya, you can purchase tickets (sliding scale $15-30) on the day of the event at the shop. Maya will also be selling some extra goodies so be sure to bring cash! If you’d like to help us prepare for the event, you can RSVP on Eventbrite, though it is not necessary.

Monday, Dec. 9 @ 6:30pm: Babes Who Book! This is the first December Babes Who Book, the second will be Dec. 23. Attendees get 10% off books/graphic novels! Tell us about what you’re reading, or what you’re excited about reading.. !

Tuesday, Dec. 10 @ 6:00pm: Manga Book Club: To Strip the Flesh. We will be discussing To Strip The Flesh by Oto Tonda. (Due to potential back orders of Inside Mari vol. 1, we may also be discussing whether or not to vote on a replacement for the February book club. Please attend if you would like a say in this discussion.) There is an Eventbrite page here if you’d like to RSVP and let us know you’re coming.

Thursday, Dec. 12 @ 6-7:30pm: QUEER CRAFT/DIY NIGHT! Bring your own crafts. Space is limited, so please reserve a spot on Eventbrite! (If you can’t make it, try to remember to cancel your ticket so that someone else can attend)

Saturday, Dec. 14 @ 1-4pm: Letter Writing with Flying Over Walls, Bay Area. They will be joining us from 1-4pm so come on down and write a birthday card to one of our queer/trans incarcerated comrades! (supplies provided) – be sure to also check out the graphic novels, zines, and books from A.B.O Comix! ABO Comix is a publisher that works with incarcerated queer/trans comrades and produces their art, writings, etc – all profits go to supporting the prisoners. Read more here.
