Hey all! It’s PRIDE month which means we bully all our straight friends to support our favorite gay comic shop… Right?? Right?? Ha ha! Anyways, here’s some cool stuff to check out in the shop. Please look forward to our art show at the end of the month where we’ll be celebrating ALL NEW ART on the walls! It’s June, it’s Pride month, convince all your friends and family to BUY GAY ART!
** If you’re an artist and you want your art featured on the walls, sign up on the spreadsheet here! There is also a link in the spreadsheet that leads to an application for the pop-up portion where we’ll be choosing a few artists to take up space on our tables and sell their stuff. **
Thursday, June 6 @ 6pm: Queer Craft Night / DIY – Sign up on Eventbrite. Space is limited. If you can’t make it, please be sure to cancel your ticket so someone else can join.
Friday, June 7 @ 2-8pm: Pride Pop-up with Revenge Fantasy by June. Come for clothing, food, and accessory vendors! Cancelled, and will be rescheduled for a later date
Saturday, June 8 @ 1-4pm: Letter Writing with Flying Over Walls, Bay Area. They will be joining us from 1-4pm so come on down and write a birthday card to one of our queer/trans incarcerated comrades! (supplies provided) – be sure to also check out the graphic novels, zines, and books from A.B.O Comix! ABO Comix is a publisher that works with incarcerated queer/trans comrades and produces their art, writings, etc – all profits go to supporting the prisoners. Read more here.
Monday, June 10 @ 6:30pm: Babes Who Book! First June meeting. June 24 will be our second meeting. Come chat with us about what you are reading and what’s on your to-read list!
Tuesday, June 11 @ 6:00pm: Manga Book Club – we’ll be discussing Otherside Picnic, vol. 1! Pick up a volume in the store to prepare!
Wednesday, June 19 @ 6pm: Mission Mini Comix! Collaborative zine-making with the Mission Mini Comix crew or draw jam! Whatever suits your artistic fancy. Sign up available on Eventbrite.
Monday, June 24 @ 6:30pm: Babes Who Book (2nd monthly meeting) – drop in to discuss what’s on your reading list, what you’re currently reading, what you’re excited about, etc. If you can, try to be on time so we only have to do introductions once… ! Haha..
Wednesday, June 26 @ 5-8pm: GAY GUNDAM NIGHT! Bring your own gunpla. Sign up on Eventbrite. Have questions about Gundam model kits? Don’t know where to start? Curious about where to purchase? Personally, I recommend Japantown Collectibles in the Japantown Center mall for checking out what they have available. There is no wrong answer, however, and it’s all about a commitment to the instructions sheet! Haha! Just be sure to get yourself a pair of nippers so you can easily cut your pieces out of the plastic.
Saturday, June 29 @ 1PM: Sapphic Tea Party! Drop in and have a cup of tea with us this afternoon! Make new friends, discover a new book… And as always, bring cash for tips.
Saturday, June 29 @ 5PM: BUY GAY ART! We are celebrating having all new art on the walls from local bay area artists and we will also be featuring a few artists in the shop selling their zines, stickers, prints, etc.!
