Summer is winding down and we are all getting ready for the best season of the year.. Fall!! Well, some of us think so. Personally, I am looking forward to digging all of my sweaters out of the closet, getting cozy with a good book, and setting up my writing goals through the end of the year. Something about the summer makes me less inclined to write – more inclined to party, hang out, read comics, and draw!
We have a full lineup of fun events that will hopefully ease us back into the writing zone, give us opportunities to craft, and of course we will see some favorites return this month.
Saturday, Sept. 9 from 1-4 PM – Letter Writing with Flying Over Walls, Bay Area. They will be joining us from 1-4pm so come on down and write a birthday card to one of our queer/trans incarcerated comrades! (supplies provided) – be sure to also check out the graphic novels, zines, and books from A.B.O Comix! ABO Comix is a publisher that works with incarcerated queer/trans comrades and produces their art, writings, etc – all profits go to supporting the prisoners. Read more here.
Wednesday, Sept. 13 @ 5:00 PM – Mission Mini Comix! Come hang out with the Mission Mini Comix crew – you can submit a zine panel, collaborate with them or work on your own art projects! Bring your own materials.
Thurs., Sept. 14 @ 6:00 PM – Sewing / Queer Crafting night! BYOP (Bring Your Own Projects) – Please register on Eventbrite as we have limited space available.
Weds., Sept. 20 @ 6:30 PM – 18+ Erotica Workshop with Natalie Sierra. One of our favorite writing workshops – Natalie has been visiting us every other month to grace us with her wisdom and experience in the world of erotica. Weds., Sept. 27 @ 6:00 PM – Poetry Zine-Making! We are back with Poetry Zine Making this month – if you haven’t been before, it’s an all levels, no experience required workshop wherein we go through a series of prompts intended to get a few poems or stream of consciousness prose that will fill a folded zine! Thurs., Sept. 28 @ 5:00 PM – GAY GUNDAM NIGHT! Bring your own gunpla / gundam model kits. You can pick some up at Ying’s in Chinatown or the toy store in Japantown!
