FUN STUFF: HOLIDAY EDITION! (DECEMBER)

Hey all! I haven’t posted October reviews and now it’s December soo… In my defense, November was super busy as we were getting ready for Fanexpo..! Ultimately, I decided to just bundle October & November reviews in with the December schedule. It’ll be at the end, so feel free to check it out after scrolling through this month’s events. I think I’ll do this moving forward to cut down on the amount of posts I have to make on here. Lol.

Notes regarding programming @ Sour Cherry Comics:

Coming out of Fanexpo the first week of December we have cancelled all the first week events that typically occur (first Thursday Sewing Night, first Saturday Poetry group, First Sunday all-genre writing @ Sprocket.. Rescheduled/postponed!)

Additionally, we are making some changes to the regular scheduling. We will continue to have the following: Sewing Nights, Powerpuff Poetry, All-Genre Writing Workshop @ Silver Sprocket, Creative Non-Fiction. Reviews from October & November:

Yuri is My Job! vol 1

This was cute, but not exactly my type. It reminded me of Ouran High School Host Club but with a female maid cafe instead of the boys. I have been told it does get explicitly gay in later volumes.

Harley Quinn the Animated Series & the Legion of Bats #1

If you love the Harley Quinn Animated Series you MUST be reading the comics! I am still making my way through the Eat! Bang! Kill! Tour (it’s been a rough few months but that collection is in my emotional support stack of books and comics next to my bed) and I just started this series and it’s super cute. It is very relevant to the show and makes a great companion. I seriously recommend picking it up!

Sweetie: Candy Vigilante #1

Okay so I obviously picked this up because sexy cover and I’m a simp, and was pleasantly surprised that the entire contents is a gory horror fest of this girl murdering disgusting men. I will likely not pick up future issues however because it doesn’t seem to have any coherent plot and one was enough. Would watch a movie about this though.

The Chilling Adventures of Salem (one-shot)

This was sooo good. I was absolutely obsessed with Sabrina: The Teenage Witch as a kid (both animated + live action with Melissa Joan Heart) and Salem was always my favorite.

Punchline #1

Well listen. If you’ve been here long enough, you know I love deranged women. Punchline is essentially a Harley Quinn knockoff but she is still fun and all the covers are hot so, I’m seated and listening. I also really love that all of these current Gotham storylines are intertwined (recently got into the new Catwoman run).

She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat vol. 1

THIS IS THE CUTEST YURI I HAVE EVER READ!!! I have 15 more copies on order right now and I swear to god if you like yuri you NEED to pick it up. It’s so good. It’s everything I want in a yuri manga, I’m not even joking. I NEED you all to read this.

Briar #1

Interesting take on Sleeping Beauty. Appears that it is also potentially going in a gay direction. I will be tuning in for future issues… Unfortunately I get all of my Diamond shipments at the end of the month juuuust after this release so I have to wait another month (same with Lovesick.)

Specs #1

This was great! I made a huge mistake not ordering more! It’s gay, it’s fun, it’s got a little mystery and intrigue.. Yeah I am seated and tuning in to the future issues.

After Hours vol 1

Really cute yuri – I’m glad I was finally able to get vol 1 in the store after staring at vols 2-3 for so long. Lol. It’s about a pair of girls who hook up after a night at a club (sober actually!) and the ~shy~ one gets into DJ and VJ-ing thanks to Kei, her new flame.

Damn Them All #1

Too many words for a comic in my opinion. The last page is what grabbed me but it took way too long. Also it’s about possession, exorcism and Brits – so really not my cup of tea. But if you liked Sandman, maybe this might be the comic for you?

panel from Junji Ito’s Deserter Collection

Finally finished Junji Ito’s Deserter story collection which is a collection of his earlier works – absolutely genius as always.
