FUN STUFF @ THE STORE: MARCH EDITION

Hello hello! It’s me again. Tragically I have not gotten a chance to do much reading so this will be an update without reviews (sad) – but I wanted to just pop in and post the lineup for March. I am really excited to announce that I’ve put together a schedule for workshops and things to do in the new shop in March. We are slated for a soft opening on March 1st which marks the first day of Women’s History Month – it is also a Tuesday which is technically outside of our normal operating hours. However, Weds., March 2nd we will be closed due to me having an appointment with my eyebrow wax lady who is very VERY difficult to schedule with. (She is also closed Monday/Tuesday.)

What we mean by soft opening is that Sour Cherry Comics will be open for shopping/browsing from 1-8 on March 1st to commemorate Women’s History Month, and moving forward, Weds-Sun. (mostly) from 12-8 will be open to the public. There will be a few exceptions which is why this is more of a “soft” open. By this time I will have more stock/inventory, a sign (yay), and a working phone line. (Whether or not I will answer however, is another story…)

Here is what we are looking at for fun things to do during the month of March:

March 1st: Women’s History Month / first day of in-person browsing and shopping hours from 1pm – 8pm.

Saturday, March 5th: Poetry Workshop! 5-7pm. This will be similarly structured to the writer’s workshop with a focus on poetry. We will look at our favorite poems and talk about why we love them so much.

Sunday, March 6th: Monthly Writer’s Workshop at Silver Sprocket, 1018 Valencia st. from 7-9pm.

Saturday, March 12: Art Show! Reception 7-9pm. There will also be normal in-person shopping and browsing hours from 12-7pm.

Tuesday, March 15: Closed to shoppers but open for Non-Fiction Workshop from 5-8pm. This one is longer and more in depth. Share passages from non-fiction/memoir that stuck with you, spend time writing (with prompts to guide you) plus time to share our own work.

Friday, March 18: YA LGBT Book club 6-8pm. We will be discussing ALL OUT: The No-Longer Secret Stories of Queer Teens Throughout the Ages. I have a few copies at the store currently and hopefully will have some more on the way shortly if you would like to read the book and contribute to the discussion.

Saturday, March 19: Mordecai’s Attic Queer Kitsch pop-up. Check out vintage homegoods and specialty items from Luke Freedman, a local queer vintage re-seller. Treasure abound!

Sunday, March 20: Shorter shopping hours from 12-6, then K-Movie Night from 6-8pm where we will play on the projector a critically acclaimed Korean movie (it will be a surprise!).

Thursday, March 24: Soundbowl with Ana from 6:30-8pm. Ana Bedollana will conduct Soundbowl therapy for participants at a TBD rate and more details will be announced closer to the date.

Saturday, March 26: Short Story Workshop! from 4-8pm. What is a short story that you love? What are the elements of a great short story that is memorable and evocative? Learn more about crafting a short n’ sweet narrative at this workshop. Drop in or stay for the whole time – we will share our thoughts of short stories we loved and spend a lot of time writing and sharing our own work.

Sunday, March 27: Documentary Night! Short shopping from 12-6 then we will put a critically acclaimed Documentary on the projector.

Thurs., March 31st: Bullet Journal with me! Have you discovered the joys of bullet journaling yet? There are so many ways to journal – this is just one idea to keep your journals and your to-do lists combined. Plus I have a ton of glitter pens that I would love to share.

That’s all for now! Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me in this journey and I can’t wait to share this space with you.
